Popped by my grandparent’s place after a hot morning shoot.
I was contemplating bringing my camera up that day, after I’ve parked the car, I’m glad I did.
A friend showed me a documentary on Sally Mann a few days ago, and I thought of the following quote;
“…the things that are close to you, are the things you can photograph the best…”
— Sally Mann
Grandpa looked frail, even though he was alright just a month ago when I visited him and grandma. He was lying on the mattress, and was asleep, guess I woke him when I arrived.
Had a small chat as I sat down on the floor, same old, but still. Every family has it’s problems.
Went out to set up my camera as I talked to my grandma, last shot of Shanghai. Grandpa decided to walk out, and sat down on the couch, as he always did.
Set up as usual, compose, calculate exposure, film in, dark slide out, shutter opens and closes, dark slide back in.
Surprisingly grandpa was quite agreeable to having his picture taken today, normally he would avoid me like the plague.
Small chit chat afterwards, before I left for home.
This is why I picked up 4×5, can’t wait for my 8×10 to arrive.
